History
Baba Jaimal
Singh ji Second Guru built a hut at the village of Bal Saran on the banks of
the River BEAS Punjab, and started living there. One
of his disciples donated three beeghas of land on which a colony started
growing as more devotees arrived, becoming known as the Dera (tent) of Baba
Jaimal Singh.
Dera
in Nowadays
"The Dera" is a community with
6000 permanent residents. About 10000-15000 people visits on normal days.
Various types of facilities are awaylable to residents like Banks, Schools,
Grocery Stores etc. Its area is about 1000 acers in boundry of Dera. And much
more beyond boundary for agriculture, Water Treatment, Warehouse etc. There are
much more facilities in dera for people who visits in dera like
accommodation, eating places etc.
FOOD
Langar
At the Dera, the free kitchen operates all
year, round-the-clock, the langar is capable of feeding up to 300,000 people
per meal, 50,000 in a single sitting. Its staff is composed mostly of volunteer
workers (sewadars). In 2007 the langar cooked over 200,000 kilos of rice and
used as many kilos of wheat to prepare chapati (unleavened bread).
Snack
bar (I & II)
(6:00-8:00 am and 4:00-8:00 pm)
Snack bar is a paid kitchen other than
Langar. Of course the food is also different in snack bar mostly Indian food in
very cheap prices.
Snack Bar I - The food is mostly south Indian like
Dosa, Idlli Sāmbhar, Sāmbhar Vada ,Dahi Bhalla, Samosa, Paneer Pakora, etc.
Snack Bar II – The food consists of sweets, punjbi food
like laddu, jalebi, Gulab Jamun, lassi, Bhathure Chholle, Tetra Pack Drinks,
Samosa, etc.
Canteen
It is a kitchen that provides appetizers
,some snacks and beverages etc. Timings of canteen are 5:00am-11:00pm except 1
hr of Satsang
Bhojan
Bhandar
It is a paid kitchen that provides main
course buffet with many main course items than langar.
Accommodations
Any person of any religion or caste can go
to the Dera. The sewadars of the Dera respect all, by the Master's order. The
colony is visited by people from around the world and from all walks of life.
Free temporary accommodation for visitors is available in hostels where
separate rooms are available.
Sheds
These are unreserved living area for
visitors for living. These are large covered areas shared by large number of
peoples living on floors.
Sarai
These are reserved living area with fold
able weaved beds for visitors for living. These are room shared by some people.
Hostels
These are reserved living area for
visitors to live. Hostels contains separate rooms for every one with sanitation
facilities and every hostel has its own canteen. The rooms are very limited so
it is recommended to post application before 6 months before going.
The Venue or Pandal
In order to provide a
sheltered venue for
these gatherings, the Dera’s engineering department has constructed one of the
largest covered structures in Asia, designed and fabricated on site using a
lightweight space-frame technology. The roof covers more than 32 acres and can
accommodate a crowd of 275,000. The roof is now covered with solar panels which
will provide enough electricity for dera. A computerized digital audio system
was specially designed for the venue to provide the best possible sound for
such a challenging environment.
Hospitals
The hospitals have almost
all the facilities to diagnose many of the diseases.
Branch
centres of Beas
Radha Soami Satsang Beas has a Science of
the Soul Research Centre in New Delhi. Its objective is to promote the
betterment of humanity. The Science of the Soul Research Centre is a non-profit
charitable society, and also acts as a mail-order bookseller for Radha Soami
Satsang Beas.
There are also Science of the Soul
Spiritual Centres worldwide (also named Science of the Soul Study Centre).
Meetings and gatherings take place in nearly 90 countries.
